What is Phlebectomy?

Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure using tiny incisions to remove varicose veins lying immediately underneath the surface of the leg. This procedure is safe and highly effective. This incision technique can be used to remove both small and large diseased veins in the leg.

No stitches are required since the incisions made during the procedure are small. After the procedure the treated areas will be covered with a small dressing.

Like most of the procedures we offer, Phlebectomy is performed in our office, this procedure uses a local anesthetic only.

After the procedure, your leg will be wrapped using a comfy and warm compression wrap. You do not need to be admitted. The physician will recommend a follow-up visit or develop a personalized treatment plan for you.

Candidates that are typically offered Phlebectomy are patients who have bulging, twisting veins that are not suitable for a catheter based ablation procedure such as EVLT or Venaseal.

Sometimes, patients require a combination of Endovenous Ablation and Phlebectomy due to severe varicose veins.
