Mild vein issues can be treated using conservative therapies such as compression socks, lifestyle changes, regular exercises, switching positions, and so forth. However, severe venous challenges may require minimally invasive procedures. One such procedures is the VenaSeal™ Closure.
What is the VenaSeal™ Closure System?
The VenaSeal™ Closure System is a non-thermal, non-tumescent, non-sclerosant procedure which makes use of an injectable medical adhesive for treating the underlying source of the venous issue. The procedure is highly effective for treating venous insufficiency such as varicose veins, blood flow issues, diseased saphenous veins, and so forth.
What’s more, the VenaSeal™ Closure System is a unique procedure that eliminates the risk of thermal nerve injury during the treatment of saphenous veins. Thermal-based procedures requires the use of tumescent anesthesia which VenaSeal™ does not. At the end of the procedure a simple bandage is placed over the puncture site and the patient walks out of the office. The VenaSeal™ Closure System is highly safe and reliable and involves no thermal application.

The Procedure
Before the procedure, Dr. Ramanath will carry out a comprehensive exam including ultrasound imaging of your leg. The exam will be used to assess the affected superficial vein and planning of the procedure.
To begin the procedure, Dr. Ramanath will use a needle stick to numb the area where your vein will be accessed from. After numbing the area, a catheter (small hollow tube) will be inserted into your leg. You may feel slight discomfort when the catheter is being placed, but likely feel nothing at all.
Once the catheter is placed in the vein, a small amount of medical adhesive is injected through the catheter. You may experience a mild sensation of tugging or pulling. The catheter is guided and positioned during the procedure using ultrasound imaging. The catheter is removed after treatment and a simple bandage is placed over the puncture site.
Potential Risks
The VenaSeal™ procedure is safe. However, just like every other minimally invasive procedure, the patient may experience mild pain, sensation, or an allergic reaction.
Recovery
There is no recovery needed after this procedure, there is also no need to wear compression stockings after the procedure.
